Successful cross-circulation thrombectomy for acute middle cerebral artery occlusion through posterior communicating artery: a case report

Last update on December 11, 2025

A 67-year-old woman was admitted with left-sided hemiplegia, a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 9, and an NIHSS score of 20. Her medical history included hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery disease. Imaging revealed an acute middle cerebral artery occlusion associated with multiple infarctions, as well as additional vessel occlusions involving the right internal carotid artery and the basilar artery. In this complex vascular setting, the team opted for a cross-circulation thrombectomy through the posterior communicating artery. Discover the rationale behind this strategy and the step-by-step procedural approach in this e-poster.
