Bow Hunter Syndrome

Last update on October 13, 2020

Dr. Pascal Jabbour from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia) shares this video of a Bow Hunter Syndrome, a rare and unusual case.

Case
  • The patient is a 67-year-old male
  • He describes the feeling of passing out each time he turns his head to the right side
  • His right-sided vertebral artery ends in PICA and does not contribute to the basilar artery
  • A dynamic angiogram was done showing a complete pinching and occlusion of the left vertebral artery at the level of C1-C2 when the patient turns his head to the right and the artery would become patent when the patients turns his head back to the neutral position

...this is known as Bow Hunter Syndrome!
