Moyamoya Disease Aneurysm Treatment

Last update on November 22, 2024
Speaker:

Yang WANG (Beijing) presents a complex case of internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm in a patient with moyamoya disease and associated complications. The patient, a 42-year-old woman, reported three months of intermittent right limb weakness without a clear cause. Imaging revealed occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery (MCA), severe stenosis, and a small aneurysm in the left MCA. DSA further confirmed the diagnosis of moyamoya disease.

The treatment plan included three steps:

  1. Balloon angioplasty to address left MCA stenosis.
  2. Stent-assisted embolization for the left ICA C5 aneurysm.
  3. STA-MCA (superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery) bypass for the right side, performed six months later.

Watch the video to explore the complications encountered during treatment, such as slow blood flow and dissection, and how the surgical team managed these challenges.
