Masterclass #11: FD and WEB for bifurcation aneurysm: a complementary competition?

Replay of Masterclass #11

Last update on February 24, 2021

What device would you use to treat a bifurcation aneurysm?

What reasons would a Flow Diverter or WEB device “compete” for your attention?

Join Professors Jacques Moret and Laurent Spelle and their expert panel as they review the nature of both devices:

  • The WEB, an endosaccular device designed with bifurcation aneurysms in mind – but is there a potential risk for recurrence when they are used?
  • The flow diverter (FD), an endoluminal tool, a side wall device with assured anatomical results – but should it be used in bifurcations where its placement implies covering large areas of arterial wall and bifurcation branches, exposing the patient to complications? Could flow reduction itself be the source of complications such as clotting or occlusion?

When, why and how would you use the technique of balloon test occlusions in the treatment of bifurcation aneurysms?

Are costs a concern in the strategy you choose?

Should “patient satisfaction” play a role in the treatment choice?

The anatomy might be WEB compatible, but complex anatomies exist where the treatment of bifurcation aneurysms could be simplified by FD. The specially chosen cases in this Masterclass explore this and, through the ensuing discussion, help us further understand where the “competition” between these two devices might truly play out….
