French Cohort of Carotid Web Associated With Cerebral Infarctions (Clinical, Imaging, and Management Features of Symptomatic Carotid Web) - CAROWEB

OBJECTIVES To broaden the knowledge regarding epidemiologic, clinical and imaging characteristics, diagnostic modalities of carotid web (CaW), current management, and outcomes of patients with symptomatic carotid web.
STUDY This is an ongoing prospective observational multicenter study initiated in June 2019 (Registry) across 14 large French stroke centers.
POPULATION Patients ≥18 years of age diagnosed with symptomatic carotid web (prospective or retrospective diagnosis within five years preceding registry initiation). Symptomatic carotid web was defined as ipsilateral carotid territory infarction detected on MRI or CT, ipsilateral retinal infarction confirmed by ophthalmological examination, transient neurological deficit in the ipsilateral carotid territory lasting <24 h without any cerebral infarction on imaging.
ENDPOINTS The primary endpoints were stroke within the target artery territory, non-traumatic hemorrhage, or neurologic death within 1 year following stenting. Secondary endpoints included stroke severity, incidence of restenosis, and secondary treatment for re-stenosis.
