Literature Review

Endovascular Treatment of Acute Stroke. A Call for Individualized Patient Selection.

This topical review by Dr. Nogueira and Dr. Ribó addresses the issue of questioning the actual paradigm in treating patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) ischemic strokes. For the last years we have been selecting patients to be candidates for mechanical thrombectomy (MT).

Good outcome and benefit have been largely demonstrated in randomized control trials and real life. Thus, its seems that this structured and restrictive approach have resulted in good outcomes but maybe also in excluding potentially benefitable patients for this therapy.
