HEMERA-1: phase 1 results of PP-007 as adjunctive therapy in stroke

Last update on July 3, 2025

In this interview with Daniel Vela-Duarte, Italo Lifante presents the final results of HEMERA-1, a prospective, randomized phase 1 trial evaluating the safety and feasibility of PP-007 as an adjunctive treatment to mechanical thrombectomy in patients with stroke secondary to large vessel occlusion. PP-007 is a polyethylene glycol (PEG)ylated bovine carboxyhemoglobin gas transfer molecule with pleiotropic cytoprotective effects, including vasodilation, plasma expansion, and optimized oxygen delivery. The molecule shows promise as a novel neuroprotective strategy in acute stroke care.
