Clinical definition of a clot type by a panel of Stroke experts—insights from the CLOTS 7.0 summit

During the last CLOTS summit held in Madrid in December 2022 and sponsored by Cerenovus, a Delphi technique was employed. This technique brought together experts in thrombectomy and clot research from various specialties to precisely define challenging clots. A consensus was reached by 38 experts on eight distinct features of such clots. This article provides an overview of these features illustrated here :

Notably, the experts reached a consensus on the consideration of switching endovascular treatment techniques after 2 or 3 unsuccessful attempts. This indicates the need for innovative solutions in cases involving tough clots. Addressing this requirement, the Nimbus™ stent-retriever was developed with the specific purpose of improving efficacy in such scenarios. Its performance was further evaluated in the recently presented SPERO study.
