Endovascular treatment of acute ischemic strokes in patients with large vessel occlusion linked to calcified cerebral embolus (CCE) is known to be very challenging. Prof. Frédéric Clarençon and Doctor Téodor Grand review here the French-based MASC Registry along with a meta-analysis from several European centers to further illustrate these results with lower reperfusion rate and worse clinical outcomes than regular MT not involving CCE. Further studies are warranted to determine the best strategy to recanalize intracranial vessels in these challenging cases.
