ASTER-2 Mechanical thrombectomy has revolutionised acute ischaemic stroke treatment, but fully re-opening the blocked artery is not always achievable. ASTER-2 is the first head-to-head comparison of two different approaches – contact aspiration plus stent retriever versus stent retriever alone – to optimise revascularization rates in acute stroke patients receiving thrombectomy.
"Remote ischaemic conditioning" reduces stroke size in animal models, but can this elegant approach be translated from lab to bedside?
