Raul Nogueira and Thanh Nguyen interview - Global Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Stroke Hospitalizations and Mechanical Thrombectomy Volumes
Last update on May 4, 2021
In this interview, Raul Nogueira (Director, Neuroendovascular Service, Marcus Stroke & Neuroscience Center Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta) and Thanh Nguyen (Director, Interventional Neuroradiology and Interventional Neurology, Boston Medical Center) present the results of their study about the impact of Covid-19 on health care system and more precisely on the volumes of mechanical thrombectomy (MT), stroke, and intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) hospitalizations.
They measured hospitalizations over a 3-month period at the height of the pandemic (March 1 to May 31, 2020) and compared it with two control 3-month periods.
The COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a global decline in the volume of overall stroke hospitalizations, MT procedures, and ICH admission volumes.
Did they expect these results?
