Evolution in stroke treatment and unmet needs...

Last update on January 4, 2022
The challenges of the last few years have certainly had an impact on the practice of interventional neuroradiology – how did it effect you? That’s the question we asked Dr. Luisa BISCOITO during the recent LINNC Paris 2021.

Dr BISCOITO spoke about the current state of practice, focusing on the dramatic evolution in stroke treatment and subsequent development of a large panorama of devices. She noted that these new devices would only have been possible by responding to the needs of the INR community and that it was the competition between different industry partners linked to the increased knowledge and clinical experience of interventionists that allows a legitimate development, growing the specialty and its capabilities to provide better healthcare to a wider population.

Turning to our unmet needs, Dr BISCOITO discusses the challenge of clots, especially recurring ones and speaks about the treatment of more distal clots.
Logistics in stroke treatment is another area of great interest, where transportation is the critical concept to provide the best stroke care for the largest population, despite geographic location.
Besides improvements in transportation systems for rural and secluded area, what else could help?  Artificial intelligence (AI) or robotics?

What do you think? What do we need for future stroke treatment? What guidelines are necessary?
Should selection be broadened?
