FD assisted coiling for right giant ICA Aneurysm

Live Case transmission From Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China

Last update on June 2, 2026

Presented during LINNC Paris 2026 by Dr. Yuxiang GU and team, this live case demonstrates flow-diverter assisted coiling for a right giant internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm.

Clinical Presentation & Strategic Decision-Making

The session features a 25-year-old female presenting with a 2-month history of blurred vision, a right partial nasal/inferior visual field defect, and an acuity of VOD 0.5 / VOS 1.0. Imaging confirmed a giant 26×17 mm right C6 ICA aneurysm. To achieve stable occlusion and alleviate mass effect on the optic nerve, the team opts for a flow-diverter assisted coiling strategy.

Key technical highlights

  • Access & navigation: Establishing support using a SOLAR 6F long sheath and a 6F X-TRACT Distal Access Catheter (DAC).
  • Microcatheter & wire setup: Navigating the anatomy with a 0.014/0.018 Starship microwire to position a Luna microcatheter and a Sine27 microcatheter.
  • Flow diversion & coiling: Deploying a Lattice NEXT flow diverter across the neck alongside targeted coil embolization.
