Authors reported mid-term anatomic results in endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysm comparing Guglielmi Detachable Coils (GDCs) and polyglycolic/polylactic acid coated coils (Matrix) coils. This is a follow-up imaging report of non-randomized prospective multi-center CLARITY study (Clinical and Anatomical Results In the Treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms) conducted in France. Follow-up images from 517 patients (GDC 276, Matrix 241) were evaluated with mean follow-up period 16.1 months (3.8-38.6 months). MRI or DSA was used in the follow-up period. Complete occlusion, neck remnant, aneurysm remnant and aneurysm evolution were interpreted by two neuroradiologists. No difference in anatomical results and evolution of aneurysm was found in between groups. There is some weakness in this study due to its non-randomized design and MRI as a part of follow-up imaging. We do agree with the results in this study by our experience. These findings confirmed no clear benefit of Matrix coils over the GDCs in acute aneurysm rupture setting and long-term progression. Platinum coil is still not outdated.
